Frontier airlines announces three new boarding groups for smooth travel

Frontier airlines has just announced a major update in its boarding processes. From the 2nd of October, the new seven-group boarding system is being implemented in place of the four-group one. The idea behind it is that boarding should be faster, more organised, and a little less stressful for everyone on board.

"Flying with Frontier just got a whole lot easier," stated Bobby Schroeter, Chief Commercial Officer of Frontier Airlines. "Our new boarding groups are designed to recognise our most loyal passengers while making the process smoother for everyone. We want to reward customers who help make our airline successful and make things easier for all travellers."

The Reason for the Change

Let’s face it! Boarding could sometimes feel like running a mad dash: everybody scrambling to their seats while the line inches forward. The new system aims to alleviate some of that madness. By having more groups to board, it intends to facilitate an orderly manner while speeding up the whole process, thus avoiding delays or possible causes of delay.

It also gives passengers with different needs or who’ve paid for extra services a chance to get on the plane first.

“The feedback we’ve heard from our customers is clear: boarding could be smoother. This is our way of addressing that,” Schroeter added.

Here’s How the New Boarding Process Works

So, how does it all break down? Here's what you can expect the next time you fly Frontier:

Preboarding

The first group is for people who need extra time or assistance to board, or for families with young kids. Passengers in this group will include:

  • Customers with disabilities or those who need extra time

  • Active-duty military personnel

  • FRONTIER Miles Elite Diamond members (the airline’s top loyalty level)

  • Families traveling with children under 2 (including those with strollers or car seats)

Group 1

This group is for Frontier’s loyal customers and passengers who’ve paid for premium services. Here’s who boards first:

  • FRONTIER Miles Elite Platinum and Gold members
  • Customers who purchased Business or Premium Bundles (which include extra perks like early boarding and more flexibility)
  • Customers who purchased the Board First option, guaranteeing them early access

Group 2

The second group is for passengers who’ve paid for the Economy Bundle or those travelling with a carry-on bag. If you’ve upgraded to one of these, you’ll be in this group.

  • FRONTIER Miles members who’ve bought an Economy Bundle or a carry-on bag

Group 3

Group 3 is for other Economy Bundle or carry-on bag customers who don’t have the added benefits of Group 2. These passengers will board after Group 1.

  • Economy Bundle customers without the extra priority perks

Group 4

Group 4 includes a mix of passengers who didn’t make it into the previous groups but still have some benefits that get them on the plane sooner than the average traveller. People in this group include:

  • FRONTIER Miles Elite Silver members
  • FRONTIER Airlines World Mastercard cardholders
  • Customers who purchased priority boarding
  • Premium or Exit Row seat customers who didn’t qualify for earlier groups

Group 5

This group is for FRONTIER Miles members who are not in the Elite levels but still have a bit of a head start compared to basic fare passengers.

  • All other FRONTIER Miles members

Group 6

Group 6 consists of Basic Fare passengers who are seated in the rear half of the plane. These folks will board before the very last group but after the Elite and priority boarding groups.

  • Basic Fare customers are seated in the back half of the plane

Group 7

The final group to board will be Basic Fare passengers who are sitting in the front half of the plane. Though they’re in the back of the line, they’ll still get on before the doors close!

  • Basic Fare customers are seated in the front half of the plane

A Smoother, More Enjoyable Flight

The importance of ticketing price negotiability and convenience for the customers with whom representatives negotiate comprises a far wider front on which Frontier operates. In recent months, they have been implementing a variety of other changes favourable to customers, including different seating options and an enhanced loyalty program.

UpFront Plus: Comfort Without Paying More

For those who want extra legroom but want to avoid the high price of a First Class ticket, UpFront Plus seating is a new option. Situated in Rows 1 and 2, these seats offer enhanced legroom with the middle seat guaranteed to remain empty so passengers can stretch out a little. If you need a bit more personal space while flying, then this would be a noteworthy upgrade.

First-class Coming Soon

At the end of 2025, Frontier plans to really step this up by rolling out full-on First-Class. This will mean bigger seats, more legroom, and all-out comfort - at an affordable price, which Frontier is famous for. It's a definite sign that Frontier is serious about bringing premium offerings to the masses without shedding its discount label.

FRONTIER Miles: The Changing Loyalty Program

Changes have gone through the loyalty program of FRONTIER Miles of Frontier. Members earn miles based on how much they spend, with the most loyal customers getting up to 20 miles per dollar. This is a huge jump from the usual 10 miles per dollar for most members. Families are allowed to pool their miles, which enables members to reach awards faster.

Elite members of this loyalty program get priority boarding, free checked bags, and preferred seat selection. Frontier looks to strike a balance between cheap travel and some comfort, along with rewards that most frequent flyers would want.

Why This Should Matter to You?

For lots of travellers, boarding is just one more special evil of flying. By breaking it into smaller boarding groups, Frontier actually wants to have less time standing in lines and more enjoyment on board.

Whether you’re a loyal BASE member, a family with children, or simply somebody who might want to get on the plane a little faster, this new system intends to provide an easier customer experience to all.

These changes are a part of a broader plan for the frontier, where they aim to push Frontier Airlines and make the air travel experience more enjoyable at lower rates. They are continuously growing their fleet, expanding flight routes, and offering new perks, so passengers can expect more changes in the near future.

What does the future hold for Frontier?

The queueing changes being put in now, plus the upcoming First Class options and other changes, suggest that as Frontier grows, it will try to balance comfort and convenience with its reputation as the preferred low-budget carrier. Frontier aims to provide cheap flights so the travel experience can become pocket-friendly and smooth across the country.
