A $970 million federal investment will revamp airports across the country.
More than 100 airports across 44 states and three territories got the money, according to the Transport Department. In addition to increasing gate capacity and increasing security checkpoints, the money will be used to improve baggage handling systems.

A Billion-Dollar Investment in American Airports
Funds will be used for different projects at each airport. For example, Washington Dulles International Airport will get $35 million to build a 14-gate, 400,000-square-foot terminal, while Salt Lake City International Airport will spend $20 million on expanding Concourse B.
But with the $40 million, Chicago O’Hare International Airport will improve its Terminal 3, including widening the central passenger corridor, reconfiguring the TSA checkpoint, updating the baggage system, and adding ADA-compliant restrooms for families. Denver International Airport will spend $26.6 million to replace its baggage handling system.
Nine American airports will use the grants to improve their airport-owned traffic control towers, including Minnesota’s Duluth International Airport and Maryland’s Martin State Airport.
Airport Terminal Program, an aviation program created by the Biden administration’s Infrastructure Law, funded the grants, according to the DOT. Across the country, the government gave nearly $1 billion to airport improvement projects last year.
First passed in 2021, the Infrastructure Law has been used for a variety of projects, including expanding electric vehicle charging stations.
